Age: Yoda is well over 900 years old. As an alien his age is difficult to determine, but by the wrinkles, fluffy remnants of white hair (yes, including ear hair) and walking with a cane, he definitely appears elderly.

Gender/Sex: Yoda is male.

Appearance: Yoda is 2 feet, 2 inches tall (.66 meters). His skin is a delightful pea green color and his very protuberant eyes are a lively shade of gold-green. What little hair he has left is fluffy and white. He has batlike ears and appears generally shriveled, like an apple left out for a few days. Due to his advanced age he walks with a gimer stick cane that doubles as a snack--a lovely property of gimer wood is its delicious sap. Yoda has four digits on his hands and feet: three fingers and a thumb, and three forward facing toes and a backward facing claw for balance. He wears battered, swamp-stained Jedi robes; a dark brown tunic/trouser combination and a lighter brown roughspun robe with a hood over. Despite their age and condition they are obviously cherished and well cared for. Yoda is capable of moving quicker than his age would indicate when necessary but he prefers a more sedate pace. He also utilizes a very unique syntax when he speaks.

History: Yoda was given over to the Jedi order as a very young child, as was the preference for Force-sensitive children. He grew up in the Temple, attained his Knighthood and Masterhood, and found his niche as a teacher. For 800 years he was a fixture in the Jedi Temple, taking particular pleasure in instructing each class of younglings--Force-sensitive children who had not yet been taken as Padawan learners by a Jedi Master. He took several Padawan learners of his own during these centuries. The last of these, Dooku, left the Order following the death of his own former Padawan Qui-Gon Jinn, much to Yoda's sorrow.

In the last days of the Galactic Republic Yoda became aware of a disquieting truth: the clarity of the Force that he had always known was being slowly but surely clouded by the dark side--a twisting of the Force used by those who twisted the energy field produced by life instead of allowing it to flow through them. Yoda and the rest of the Jedi Council kept this a secret for as long as they could. With the outbreak of a civil war, the opposition led by his former Padawan Count Dooku, the Jedi found themselves drawn into combat as generals instead of serving as peacekeepers.

During this three year period Yoda found himself occasionally in charge of clone squads, teaching them as he did his own Padawans. He found himself wondering at his mental state as he began to hear the voice of the fallen Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn: an impossibility, as those who became one with the Force were thought to give up their individuality after death. It was indeed Qui-Gon, who had partially learned to retain his individuality and guided Yoda to the source of his teachings.

In the last days of the Clone Wars, Yoda felt the deaths of thousands of Jedi: Masters, Knights, Padawans, and younglings alike. He escaped his own assassination at the hands of trusted clone troopers and returned to Coruscant to face down the Sith Lord who orchestrated the downfall of the Jedi, though it was not his battle to win and he went into exile in the swamps of the planet Dagobah. He remained there for twenty-three years, waiting for his final student.

The student, Luke Skywalker, was the son of Anakin Skywalker, who had betrayed the Jedi two decades earlier. Despite his own misgivings Yoda taught him--though Luke, following in his headstrong father's footsteps, left early to follow his own path. By the time Luke returned Yoda was at the end of his life, and with a few final words of parting Yoda died in his own bed.

But it was not the end. Yoda, drawing on his earlier training, retained his individuality. He appeared to Luke again, reunited with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, to show his pride in his former student for succeeding where all three had failed.

Personality: Yoda is above all things a teacher. He is thoughtful, playful, and wise. He has become humble after the loss of the Jedi Order and his two-decade exile--though it has also made him somewhat eccentric. Yoda is basically the weird grandpa that everyone wants.

Abilities: Yoda has the abilities of a Force-user: empathy, telekinesis, stealth, enhanced speed, and lightsaber training. He has the ability to absorb energy, though this requires effort. He prefers the spiritual side of the Force over its combat applications, preferring to meditate rather than fight. He prefers to use the Force in a passive manner rather than an overt, outward manner. For the purposes of Arda_marred, Yoda will not display or use the abilities of battle meditation or Force visions.

Inventory: In addition to his robes, Yoda has his gimer stick cane and a blissl--a panflute-like instrument--that he wears around his neck. His lightsaber has long been lost to him.

Anything else: Voted Best Listener in his class at the Jedi Temple. Voted most likely to poke you with a stick for his own amusement and then give you valuable life advice by Luke Skywalker, probably.
